Adidas appoints Stella McCartney to design Team GB kit

London 2012 clothing sponsor Adidas is hoping Stella McCartney will produce competition outfits that fuse “performance and style” after appointing the British designer as creative director for the Games.

The sportswear giant, the official sportswear partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has hired McCartney to design both the kit worn by competing athletes and official games merchandise.

She will also oversee design of a “lifestyle range” for men and women with the first set launching in the autumn.

The designer has previously worked with adidas on a “sports-inspired” performance range for women, “adidas by Stella McCartney”.

Nick Craggs, marketing director for adidas, says: “This is the ultimate fusion of performance and style and we are delighted to further our relationship with Stella in this way.”

Adidas’ Games product range includes the official Team GB and Paralympics GB kit, presentation suits and village wear. It has been kit partner to Team GB since 1984.
