Hammer Horror themed beers are being produced by The Buxton Brewery Company in a bid to boost the company’s sales.

The brewer has signed a contract with licensing agency Coolabi, which represents Hammer Films, to produce three Hammer-themed beers for the European market.

The beers will be Coffin Ale, a very pale ale, Dracula’s Desire, a deep, blood-red bitter, and the very strong, full-bodied IPA Curse Of Frankenstein. They will be available in bottles and on draught from September. Each will have a label or beer pump clip illustrated with a classic film poster image from the library of Hammer House of Horror films.

The draught versions of the beers will initially be made available to pubs as guest ales in the area supplied by the Buxton Brewery Company Limited, taking in the Peak District and cities including Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby, Birmingham, Stafford, Stoke and Macclesfield. The brewer is also targeting key markets, particularly in the rest of the country through its third party supply chain.

The bottled beers will be sold through off-licences and supermarkets and online through independent retailers and the soon-to-be launched www.hammerhouseofbeer.com website. Bottles and casks will also be made available to interested outlets throughout Europe.

Geoff Quinn, owner of the Buxton Brewery Company, says: “The combination of our own reputation among ale drinkers, a varied selection of beers and strengths and, of course, the high recognition factor and enormous popularity of the Hammer brand promises a strong market for these beers. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Hammer on this project.”
