Ocado has confirmed that it has appointed Matthew Knight as its first head of marketing, following its stock market float.

Knight will take on the head of marketing, insight & communications role and report in to Ocado’s head of retail Jon Rudoe.

He will take responsibility for Ocado’s marketing strategy and customer analytics.

Kight’s background is in customer research developed over seven years in strategy roles at loyalty scheme Nectar. He joined the online grocer earlier this year as a consultant.

Ocado is currently developing its digital strategy through social media and search marketing but is yet to appoint a digital agency to handle its account.

The online grocer floated on the stock market yesterday with shares priced at 180p, well below the original price estimated by Ocado’s owners.

It’s floatation has been questioned as Ocado has yet to make a pre-tax profit but our Secret Marketer columnist has put up a robust defence.
