Garmin and City AM running partners

Garmin, the satellite navigation brand, is targeting office workers with a campaign to get people running during their lunch hour.

It has linked up with free newspaper City AM for a five-week push. The campaign promotes Garmin’s GPS Sportswatches and the Garmin Connect community site.

At the heart of the promotion is a running competition, where businesses will be encouraged to enter teams into a four-mile race. Over the five weeks, runners are encouraged to set their own four-mile loops on the Garmin Connect site and post details of how fast they complete the circuit.

Garmin is initially taking over City AM’s reverse front cover, reverse inside front cover and adjacent page explaining the four-mile race and carrying possible run routes. For four weeks, City AM’s health page on Tuesday will feature a column from a fitness expert to give tips to runners.

The sports pages will also carry a runner diary on Thursdays over the duration of the promotion and City AM’s distribution team will be wearing branded Lunchtime #4miler T-shirts. Garmin will offer City AM readers special promotional deals.

The campaign starts on 2 August.

City AM is distributed free to commuters in London and in May this year recorded an ABC figure of 106,097.
