The service, Music Anywhere, accesses a user’s music library on their PCs and syncs the most popular tracks to their phones.

It costs £29.99 a year and is compatible with iPhones, BlackBerries and some Android devices. The service will be offered free to Carphone Warehouse subscribers who purchase Samsung’s Europa smartphone.

Tom Guy, group head of digital services at Carphone Warehouse, said, “Music Anywhere lets you listen to music wherever you are, through any computer or by downloading the mobile app.”

The service has 6m tracks and provides operators with analytics on which of their artists are most popular with Music Anywhere subscribers.

Carphone Warehouse has secured the backing of the record industry’s four major record labels – EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner – and partnered with content streaming company Catch Media to launch the service.

Geoff Taylor, CEO of music industry body the BPI, said, “We strongly support record labels’ positive approach to licensing a huge range of innovative legal music services.”
