Asda to print Facebook photos in-store

Asda is to offer customers a photo service that prints photos directly from Facebook.

The supermarket has teamed up with Fuji and PNI Digital Media in an exclusive three-month deal to offer the photo kiosks at its 187 photo centres.

Customers will be able to print photos directly from their Facebook accounts at the in-store kiosks. They will also be able to create customised collages of pictures and gifts including calendars.

Asda will promote the additional service thorough point of sale material in-store and through advertising.

Asda camera and photo manager Jeremy Stacey said: “Billions of photos are uploaded to social sites every month. This is an easy method to access and print these images.”

Further social networking sites may be added to the service so that customers can print photos from other sites as well as Facebook.

Separately, the supermarket has won a high court battle against high street optician Specsavers over an advertising campaign it launched last year.

Specsavers accused the supermarket of confusing the public and imitating its brand with its advertising campaign, which used the phrase “spec savings”.
