Crozier: ITV is “dysfunctional”

ITV is “fairly dysfunctional” and “needs fixing” its chief executive Adam Crozier has warned.

Crozier told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme the broadcaster had got left behind as the “media landscape” developed.

ITV needed to move into pay per view broadcasting and the internet, he said during the interview this morning.

However he ruled out viewers having to pay for the main ITV1 channel.

Crozier joined the broadcaster from the Royal Mail in April.

ITV has already announced it intends to move into pay-per-view. It said earlier this year that it will launch three new high definition channels via Sky in the autumn – ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD.

Its single high definition channel, ITV1 HD, is currently available for free via Freesat, Freeview, Sky and Virgin.

ITV reported a return to profit earlier this month, announcing higher advertising revenues had delivered a pre-tax profit of £97m for the first half of the year. Previously it reported a loss of £105m for the same period last year.

Crozier unveiled his five-year plan for the broadcaster to the City at the same time as its results, revealing a concerted shift of focus to online and digital development.
