She takes the helm from Evelyn Webster who took over the role two years ago from Auton.

Since leaving IPC two years ago Auton has been executive vice president of parent company Time Inc and chairman of IPC. When she rejoins IPC, she will retain her role as chairman.

Webster is moving to the US to become executive vice president of Time Inc’s lifestyle division, based in New York. She will report to Time Inc CEO Jack Griffin.

The changes are effective from January 2011.

Evelyn says: “I am thrilled to have been offered the opportunity to join Time Inc’s senior team as EVP of the Lifestyle Division. My 18 years at IPC have been a privilege, especially the last 20 months as CEO when I have been able to lead such a strong team during our transformation into a truly multi-platform company. I know IPC has a great future, and in Sylvia, I couldn’t be handing it back to a better leader.

“Sylvia says: “I’m really looking forward to working once more with the IPC Media board to lead this fantastic company and its people and build on the great work that has been done over the last two years.”

In the latest ABC figures, IPC Media saw a 3.3% drop in total circulation of its consumer titles to 5.7m compared to the previous 12 months.
