Executive VP Vanjoki to leave Nokia

Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia’s executive VP and board member, has resigned just three days after the company announced the replacement of CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo with Microsoft’s Stephen Elop.

Vanjoki has headed Nokia’s mobile solutions unit since May and has served on the company board since 1998.

News of his departure comes as the company bids to boost its fortunes in the smartphone market, where it has lost ground to Apple and Android.

Nokia announced that Vanjoki will work a six-month notice period. A replacement has yet to be confirmed.

“I felt the time has come to seek new opportunities in my life,” said Vanjoki.

New CEO Elop will begin his role later this month following the Nokia World exhibition, where the Finnish company is expected to outline its bid to claw back market share from smartphone rivals Apple and RIM.
