Twitter to let brands pay to be suggested followers
Twitter is expected to launch an ad product that allows brands to feature within suggested followers, according to reports.
Promoted Accounts is expected to allow brands to pay to feature within the ’Who to follow’ part of the page, helping brands boost their followers. Users would then have to choose to follow the account by clicking on the Follow button.
According to All Things Digital, Twitter is due to unveil the product at an event in the US later today. Reports so far suggest Twitter will use data to suggest only relevant accounts to users.
Twitter was in the UK last week speaking to brands and agencies about its commercial products for the first time, although no brands in the UK have used Twitter on a paid basis as yet.
Promoted Accounts will sit alongside its Promoted Tweets and Promoted Trends services, which it already offers to brands in the US.
