Motorola gets smart with ‘party proof’ phone

Motorola is joining the smart phone battle with a new TV and press campaign, which aims to show its product is “party-proof.”

The Motorola DEFY is the first Android smartphone that is water resistant, scratch resistant and dust proof.

The TV ad, created by Ogilvy and Mather, aims to show the Motorola DEFY’s resilence during a hectic night out when the phone is bashed about on the dance floor, dropped in a pool and getting lost.

The ad has been directed by two-time Cannes Lions winner Carl Erick Rinsch, who has also created the campaign’s five print ads. The campaign also includes outdoor and point of sale.

A teaser of the TV ad will be available on the Motorola YouTube channel prior to the full campaign launch.

The move follows Microsoft’s launch yesterday of its range of Windows 7 phones, which go on sale in the UK from 21 October.

At the launch, writer and tech-enthusiastic Stephen Fry, known for his love of iPhones, said he welcomed the range of phones coming to market saying: “The more players there are the more it drives creativity and innovation, the more thrilling the space becomes.”
