Ad recovery boosts FT sales by 11%

Financial Times publisher Pearson says that a 50% bump in digital subscriptions for the newspaper helped boost revenues by 11% for the year to date.

The uplift in digital subscriptions, which now number over 180,000 and a “sustained” recovery in advertising revenues helped lift revenues in its FT Group division the media group says in an update on trading in the first nine months of 2010.

The publisher has prioritised digital revenue growth at its newspaper division via innovations including the launch of its iPad app, which the publisher recently claimed has had over 400,000 downloads since its launch in May.

Total sales across all divisions increased by 7%, Pearson says, while operating profit rose 15% in the year to 30 September.

Sales grew 5% at Penguin, buoyed by sales of e-books, while sales from its education business were up 7%.
