Nissan begins global recall of 2m cars

Nissan is recalling an estimated 2.1 million of its cars after a fault with the engine control system was discovered.

The recall will see 83,000 Nissan Micra cars recalled in the UK.

The alert comes hot on the heels of Toyota recalling a further 1.5m cars globally after fears about the safety of brake and fuel injection systems in some of its high end models.

Toyota’s brand reputation has already taken a blow after a series of recalls earlier in the year.

A spokesman at Nissan UK says that the car manufacturer was still formulating its PR and communications strategy regarding the recall.

Nissan recently launched an experiential campaign to showcase future products at the O2 under the banner of the “Innovation Station”.

Earlier this month, Nissan began integration of the company’s brand, marketing and communications functions under a new division called global marketing communications (GMC).

Global marketing communications is based at Nissan’s global headquarters in Japan and is led by Andy Palmer, currently senior vice president for global planning and program management.
