LinkedIn campaign helps users brand themselves

LinkedIn has launched a campaign to help existing and prospective users promote themselves as “brands” to increase their employment potential.

Launching today (16 November) across Europe, BrandYou aims to connect LinkedIn users with discussion and insight from advertising and marketing professionals on how to promote themselves.

The BrandYou Board is made up of Saatchi & Saatchi media and innovations director Andrzej Moyseowicz, Publicis Worldwide global planning director John Woodward and David Midgely, professor of marketing at graduate business school INSEAD, and Katie Ledger, communications coach and author.

Kevin Eyres, managing director at LinkedIn Europe, says: “BrandYou is about establishing, building and maintaining your credentials, profile and professional experience throughout all stages of your career.”

The BrandYou Board has helped compile an online survey which will help LinkedIn users understand their “BrandYou” type, and create online discussions with their friends and contacts, and on the BrandYou Group page.

The company says BrandYou has been launched to exploit the increased use of social media by young professionals to find work, and the growing mobility of Europe’s workforce, with people changing jobs at an unprecendented rate.

The campaign will continue into 2011 with extra content and insight added over the coming months.

It follows the launch of Company Pages earlier in the month, which allows brands to attract new customers through product and service recommendations, and making LinkedIn users brand ambassadors. Microsoft, Phillips and The Open Univesity are among the brands which are already signed up.

Launched in 2003, LinkedIn currently has 80 million members worldwide, with more than 18 million users in Europe.
