Ericsson appoints marketing chief

Telecoms firm Ericsson has promoted its head of multimedia Jan Wäreby to head up its sales and marketing division.

He is tasked with leading the “next step in the company’s transformation” and developing its sales and marketing strategy to better serve its customers.

Wäreby is currently senior vice president, head of multimedia at Ericsson and a member of the executive leadership team.

He will take on the new role from 1 January 2011. Wäreby replaces Torbjörn Possne, who took the role as head of Ericsson’s global customer unit for Vodafone.

Ericsson operates a joint venture with Sony to create “experiences that blur the lines between communication and entertainment”.

He was previously corporate executive vice president and head of sales and marketing at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and is said to have played an integral role in establishing the joint Sony/Ericsson venture.

Hans Vestberg, president and CEO of Ericsson, says: “Jan’s experience from growing business in new areas combined with customer and consumer understanding will be instrumental in driving our business in the next decade.”
