HSBC names marketing chief

HSBC has appointed Chris Clark to the new group head of marketing and customer experience role.

Clark, previously head of customer experience, was named interim group head of marketing in August after Tracy Britton left to return to the US.

He will not be replaced as head of customer experience and will now oversee both areas.

This is Clark’s second stint in the top marketing role. He was group head of marketing before Britton took over in March 2009.

Clark will report to Paul Thurston, recently named chief executive of retail banking and wealth management with global responsibility for marketing.

Thurston, who takes up his position in March, will also have responsibility for directing all aspects of HSBC’s retail banking business globally, including the personal financial services and insurance businesses.

Stuart Gulliver, who will take up the role of group chief executive in January, says that Thurston’s appointment is part of his plan to help the bank “realise its full potential in retail banking”.
