The offer gives readers access to both The Times and The Sunday Times apps, with content from its 12 sections, an interactive TV guide and the website.

Until now, The Times iPad app has been sold in isolation for £9.99 a month, while website subscriptions have been sold alongside print.

News International is offering readers a free sample edition of the app on Friday, and after this it will cost £1.79 a week.
Readers with an existing seven-day Times print subscriptions will be given the app free of charge.

News International, like other publishers, has been experimenting with paid-for subscription models around apps. Mail Online, The Independent and The Guardian, traditionally ad-funded and free, have all launched paid-for apps with a raft of differing subscription options.

The Independent is promoting its iPad app as a free download or with bundling options, with five editions free, ten for £1.79 or 20 for £2.99. All are discounts on the print edition cover price.
