The “Please ReTweet Me” campaign is the first phase of the charity’s new strategy to use digital media to raise awareness of Meningitis and provide advice on how to recognise the symptoms of the fatal disease.

The lyrics of Humperdinck’s “Release Me” have been rewritten to include references to social networks and digital media brands including Digg, Twitter, FourSquare and Facebook.

The “Please ReTweet Me” campaign was created by social media PR agency Renegade Media.

The YouTube video is a spoof of the recent film The Social Network and aims to direct audiences to the Meningitis Trust Facebook page.

Sue Davie, chief executive of the Meningitis Trust, says: “We want to reach out to a young audience and we live in a social media society so to reach them we needed to cut through with something memorable and sharable. “Please ReTweet Me” appeals to an at risk group; if it helps save one life it will have worked.”

The full lyrics Please ReTweet Me:

Please ReTweet me let me post
For I don’t Digg you anymore
To waste MySpace would be a sin
ReTweet me and let me Blog again

I have found a Facebook dear
and I will want my Foursquare near
iPhone or Android I can’t choose
ReTweet me my darling let me post

Please ReTweet me let me post
For I don’t Bing you anymore
To waste MySpace would be a sin
So, Retweet me and let me Flickr again

Please ReTweet me can’t you see
Yahoo’d be a fool to Google me
To YouTube a lie would bring us pain
So, ReTweet me and let me Bebo again
Facebook me, Facebook me…
