Mothercare appoints Aviva’s Mackenzie to the board

Mothercare has appointed Aviva global marketing and communications director Amanda Mackenzie as a non-executive director, a move that comes as the retailer issues a profit warning.

Mackenzie is credited with masterminding the rebrand of the insurance provider from Norwich Union to Aviva in 2009.

Ian Peacock, Mothercare chairman, says Mackenzie’s “extensive expertise” in global brand development and strategy will help the international expansion of Mothercare and its sister chain Early Learning Centre.

The mother and baby retail chain expects full year profits to be 10-15% lower than expected following a 4% fall in sales over the festive period.

The chain says that pre-Christmas snow prevented shoppers from reaching its out of town stores driving like-for-like sales down 21% during one week in December.

The retailer stopped taking orders in December over fears that the weather would prevent deliveries arriving in time for Christmas.

Amanda Mackenzie spoke at Marketing Week’s conference The Annual in 2010, read about what she said here.
