Gap head of brand to step down
Gap’s head of brand Marka Hansen is to step down from her role, three months after the company’s logo fiasco.
Hansen, who has been with Gap for 24 years, was the public face of the US fashion retailer in October when it pulled a new logo after just one week.
Gap returned to using its 20-year old “blue box” brand logo with GAP written in white and abandoned the new logo which had GAP written in black with a graduated blue box at the top right corner following a public backlash.
Glenn Murphy, chairman and CEO of Gap Inc, says her departure marks “the right time for a change in the organisation in order to take Gap brand to a new level”.
As well as facing criticism for the new logo, Gap was lambasted for its attempts to launch a crowd-sourcing initiative to develop a new logo.
Gap says it will announce an internal successor to Hansen tomorrow (3 February).
