Wemyss will lead a team of 26 focusing on enhancing Lloydpharmacy’s store experience and developing its over the counter medicine and beauty ranges.
He is tasked with building on Lloydspharmacy’s “strong” customer relationships to compete with rivals Superdrug and Boots which both have a strong presence in the beauty market.
Lloydspharmacy is set to launch a free in-store customer magazine next month and aims to use the publication to build brand awareness and customer loyalty.
Wemyss joins from Carphone Warehouse and was previously trading director at health and beauty retailer Superdrug where he was involved with the chain’s strategic repositioning.
He has also worked on the health and beauty buying teams at Boots.
The retail chain, which operates 1,600 stores in the UK, reported turnover of £1.8bn in 2009.
