Volvo appoints global marketing chief

Volvo has appointed Richard Monturo as global marketing chief to lead its global brand strategy.

Monturo will be tasked with “sharpening” the Volvo brand with a consistent global strategy and developing local executions for each market’s needs.

He joins from Miami based advertising agency La Comunidad where he was executive director working on brands including brands as Absolut, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Michelin, McDonald’s and Volkswagen.

Before taking on the vice president of global marketing role, Monturo spent several months at Volvo Car’s headquarters in Gothenburg supporting the development of the global brand strategy.

Volvo has also appointed Peter Mertens as senior vice president of research and development to lead the development of the future products.

He was previously head of quality at Jaguar Land Rover Range Rover and head of corporate quality at Tata Motors India.

Mertens has also held several high ranking positions within Daimler Chrysler AG and General Motors.

Both Mertens and Monturo will join Volvo on 1 April.
