LinkedIn launches social news aggregator
LinkedIn has launched a social news tool to drive more traffic to its site.
Called LinkedIn Today, it aggregates headlines and news stories that are most shared by a user’s professional connections and related to their industry.
Users can customise it by following up to 22 industries, and can follow news sources including The Financial Times.
They can also view headlines and news stories that are trending across the global network, which has a total 90m members.
LinkedIn Today has launched in beta online and on the company’s iPhone app.
LinkedIn senior VP of product and user experience Deep Nishar says: “LinkedIn Today provides members with a quick and easy way to digest trending news gleaned from the collective wisdom of 90m professionals – what they’re reading, what they’re sharing and what they’re saying.”
Earlier this year the network revealed plans to improve its ad technology to give marketers more ways to produce targeted ads based on a user’s age, location, job title, location and seniority.
