Tesco turns to kids for advice

Tesco is creating an advisory board made up of children to shape the direction of its Tesco for Schools & Clubs programme.

The board will be made up of six “young entrepreneurs” aged between nine and 12 who can demonstrate “that they have a talent for making decisions and a vision for the future”.

Each member of the kids’ board will win 10,000 Tesco for Schools & Clubs vouchers for their school or club, and a laptop and digital camera.

Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Tesco executive director, says: “Children are full of good ideas so we thought they should have a chance to make some of them happen. And what better way than giving them the opportunity to shape our hugely popular Tesco for Schools & Clubs programme and in the process, also win a prize for their school or club.”

The kid’s board is part of Tesco’s wider strategy to use customer insights from its Clubcard and Tesco mums panel to drive the business.

Richard Brasher took over as UK CEO of Tesco on 1 March following the departure of long-standing CEO Terry Leahy.
