The German company is hoping take advantage of the growing penetration of smartphones and the rise in social commerce. It has just updated its app for Android, Blackberry and Apple iOS.
Former travel marketer Richard Dennys has been appointed to the role thanks to his web experience, particularly his expertise in online communities. He is a former marketer at The Local AB and former managing director of Brilliant Weekends.
Dennys’ role will focus on growing the Qype community and engaging with consumers as well as overseeing advertising sales and partnership development with the aim of growing the business in the UK and Europe.
Qype’s Mobile App allows users to access location-based reviews and recommendations on businesses from restaurants to shops and dentists to mechanics. Users can check-in, post reviews, download discount vouchers and earn rewards.
Dennys says: “Qype puts decision making in people’s hands and we’re eager to make it a household name. My primary aim is to make sure people ’Qype’ before they make any purchasing decisions, check-in while they are there, then post a review about their customer experience afterwards.”
Qype was launched in 2005 and arrived in the UK in 2007.
