Unilever-owned soap brand Lux is paying tribute to the late Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor with a video celebrating the life of “its most iconic star”.

JWT created the video that draws attention to the beauty brand and the actress, who passed away on March 23 at the age of 79.

Taylor was the face and voice of Lux in the 1940s and 1950s, featuring in the brand’s print ads, TV commercials and Lux Radio Theatre productions.

Lux Radio Theatre was a classic radio drama anthology series that was first broadcasted in the 1930s and continued for more than 20 years, before making the transition to television for most the 1950s.

It was the sponsorship of radio dramas by soap manufacturers that gave birth to the term ’soap opera’.

The JWT-created video includes archive photos and rare footage of well-known moments in the actress’ career, including the Lux soap ad from 1956 and the 1947 Radio Theatre production of Cynthia.

A Lux spokesperson says the video is designed to pay homage to Taylor’s “legacy and beauty in all its personifications”.
