LoveFilm to stream Disney films

LoveFilm has partnered with The Walt Disney Company to stream films including Tron: Legacy, Armageddon and Dead Poets Society for the first time.

More than 50 films from Disney’s library will be made available via the LoveFilm online player.

The deal is the latest step in the company’s ongoing expansion strategy, which has seen it sign content deals with studios MGM, Momentum and Warner Bros.

LoveFilm members will be granted access to the films automatically as part of their online subscription, while non-members can pay to watch the films.

Other films to be made available on the player include Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Cocktail, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and new releases Tangled and I Am Number Four.

All the films will be available on devices LoveFilm is available on, including web-connected TVs and Sony’s PS3.

Earlier this year Amazon bought the remaining shares in LoveFilm for an undisclosed sum.

At the time, LoveFilm CEO Simon Calver said at the time that the buyout wouldn’t derail LoveFilm’s plans to accelerate its digital offering.
