Vivienne Westwood has designed an exclusive Marie Claire t-shirt dress to promote the magazine’s global rainforest appeal and to “influence” the current fashion trend of “up-cycling” clothes instead of buying new outfits.

The dress will be sold and produced by Fair Trade fashion company People Tree, with £7 from each sale donated to tribes in Bangladesh, who are affected by deforestation.

Marie Claire will also publish a special rainforest editorial section this month, guest edited by Vivienne Westwood.

The magazine says its rainforest appeal marks the UN General Assembly’s declaration that 2011 is to be the “international year of forests”.
