SeeSaw closes

Online TV service SeeSaw is to close after just 16 months after failing to find a buyer to support it.

SeeSaw owner Arqiva appointed Ingenious Media to find an investment partner for the business at the start of the year, but announced it would close the venture today (27 May). The service will be withdrawn in June.

A statement on the SeeSaw blog says: “Following a strategic review of its business activities Arqiva, our parent company is no longer able to support the service.”

SeeSaw launched in 2010, formed from the defunct Project Kangaroo, and included content from the BBC Worldwide and Channel 4.

The website offered thousands of hours of free archive and catch up programming and also paid-for rentals.

BBC-backed venture, the YouView IPTV service, is set to launch next year, despite a series of delays.
