Portman Group chief to leave
The chief executive of alcohol industry body The Portman Group, David Poley is to leave after five years in the top job.
As spokeswoman for the group, which regulates producers’ marketing through its code of practice, says Poley will be replaced and he will stay in the post until a successor is found. It is not known if he has a job to go to.
The Portman Group, which is funded by the UK’s nine biggest producers, has been coordinating the industry’s response to the Government’s responsibility deal.
It will issue a guide to complying with the industry’s commitment to include more health information on labels in the summer. A consultation to tighten its marketing code of practice will follow soon after.
Poley has been at the Portman Group for 14 years. Prior to this, he worked at the Advertising Standards Authority where he was responsible for the pre-publication advice given to advertisers and media on the acceptability of ads.
