Sainsbury’s has poached Ocado’s head of retail Jon Rudoe to lead its ecommerce team.

His appointment is part of Sainsbury’s efforts to accelerate the growth of its online business, which is currently growing at 20%.

Rudoe will join Sainsbury’s on 11 July as director of online with responsibility for running its online grocery and non-food business.

The supermarket has also created a head of digital role in a bid to ramp up its digital and multi-channel business.

Tanya Lawler, currently director of direct channels, will take on the new role from July reporting to group development director Luke Jensen.

Lawler is tasked with expanding Sainsbury’s Click and Collect service to more than 800 stores by the end of the year. It is currently offered at 400 stores.

Earlier this month Tesco named former EHS 4D chief executive Matt Atkinson as group digital marketing officer.
