It can be difficult to comprehend how much data is held in a gigabyte, let alone a zettabyte.
But apparently that’s how much data will be created and stored on computers this year alone (well, 1.8 zettabytes, apparently), with the number set to double every two years, according to the International Data Corporation and EMC.
But how much is 1.8 zettabytes actually worth? Around $34.4 trillion (£21.25 trillion) – another mind-boggling figure that’s difficult to fathom in the real world.
Fortunately for simpletons like me that think in objects rather than numbers, Mashable has put together a fantastic infographic to make sense of the lines of 0s.
It makes for some truly baffling viewing – and that’s without cloud computing being truly mainstream, which will soon make it far easier to create, store and access data on the go.
