Laurie joins other celebrities such as Cheryl Cole and Eva Longoria, who appear in advertising for the brand’s skin and hair care products.

Other celebrity men that appear in advertising for L’Oreal’s male grooming brands include Gerard Butler, Eric Cantona and actor Patrick Dempsey.

Laurie is reported to be one of the highest paid actors in the US, where he stars as the title character in medical drama House.

He also written a novel and recently released his first solo blues album, Let Them Talk.

Cyril Chapuy, global brand president of L’Oréal Paris, says Laurie is: “the perfect example of a modern man: genuine, uninhibited, strong and willing to pursue his passions to the end”.

Laurie says: “At first I thought it was a mistake, but then I realised that L’Oreal wasn’t looking for models but for people with strong personalities, who are worth it…and who aren’t afraid to proclaim that using cosmetics can be a very masculine decision after all.’
