The Daily Star Sunday is set for a massive push this weekend, following its tripling in sales last week as readers migrated from the now-defunct News of the World.

This coming weekend the Daily Star on Sunday will be promoted heavily on television, with more direct marketing and point of sale activity planned in a bid to lure former News of the World readers over to the newspaper.

Daily Star on Sunday will also be up-paged and again feature its OK! Extra celebrity supplement, which debuted last week.

The Northern and Shell red top title achieved a sale of more than 1 million copies last Sunday (17 July), an increase of 344% on its last ABC circulation report, according to internal figures.

Sources close to the Daily Star Sunday say that Northern and Shell will be printing 1.4 million copies following its success last week.

Daily Star Sunday’s circulation was flat month on month in June, at 305,978, but is down 13.18% year on year.

Rival publisher Associated Newspapers, which owns the Daily Mail, is understood to be launching a Sunday tabloid to grab readers orphaned by the closure of the News of the World.
