Former Dixons marketer Tim Fairs is tasked with developing Clintons’ “brand personality” and modernising its product range to better suit consumers and the changing retail environment.

His initial priority will be to boost sales and oversee the recently launched ecommerce website, which allows customers to personalise cards and gifts.

The marketing director role will also include responsibility for customer insight, in-store and online service and price, range and promotional strategy.

The family-owned business recently named Starbucks UK managing director Darcy Willson-Rymer as its first CEO from outside the Clinton family. He joins in October.

Clinton Lewin, group managing director says: “Tim has an impressive track record for implementing game changing strategies and at this pivotal stage for the business it’s evident I know that Clintons will benefit from his experience.”

The chain is the UK’s largest specialist card retailer operating more than 650 UK stores. Rivals include Cards Galore, WHSmith and Paperchase.

Fairs joins from Dixons Retail where he was head of marketing and he previously held the same role at Virgin Retail where he was responsible for relaunching the brand and introducing its first loyalty scheme.

He also spent six years as head of advertising at electricals retailer Comet.
