The “supervans”, designed to look like famous vehicles from the A-Team, Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky and Hutch, Grease and Scooby Doo, will be driven by Virgin Media engineers as they visit homes to install TiVo boxes and the company’s other products.
Engineers will also be encouraged to dress up as characters from the related films and TV programmes, such as Mr T or Daisy Duke, as part of the promotion.
Maurice Daw, executive director of access at Virgin Media, says: “We want to bring the total entertainment experience to our customers and it’s the extra touches that really make a difference – we hope the new fleet will make our customers smile and make the installation process a fun one.”
The Virgin Media TiVo service launched earlier this year and combines live TV broadcasts with a catch-up schedule and allows customers to access a range of web-based apps. The service is one of the main differentiators against its biggest rival Sky, which has yet to launch a fully internet-ready box into the market.
