LG Mobile’s head of marketing Alex Windle has left the company, just weeks after launching one of the company’s biggest ever campaigns that it hoped would help recapture market share.

Windle admitted to Marketing Week in July that its customers had “drifted” over the past year as they migrated to market leaders Apple and Nokia.

It was hoped that the launch of the Optimus 3D smartphone and its related “stand out [launch] campaigns”, would connect with early technology adopters and “pub geeks” in order to drive sales and boost the company’s market share.

It is not yet known whether Windle has a job to go to.

The news comes as LG confirmed a replacement for its UK general manager Jim Michel, who left the company in August after just six months in the role.

Warren Lewis joins the mobile division from heading up LG Electronics’ IT solutions business. LG says Lewis grew the business by 38% during his four year tenure.

LG is the seventh largest smartphone-maker in the UK, with 1.2% of the market share, according to comScore. Its closest rivals are Sony Ericsson (6.3%) and Samsung (7.3%).
