Ocado is set to launch customer magazine

Ocado is shunning the traditional recipe based format of supermarket-owned magazines with the launch of its first customer magazine.

The online grocer says the magazine “embraces the philosophy that its customer chooses to live life differently, and more fully”.

The quarterly Ocado Life magazine will include content from contributors including philosopher Alain de Botton, environmental writer Lucy Siegle, and chef presenter Gizzi Erskine. The launch edition will have the strapline “change” and each subsequent edition will have a different theme.

The magazine is one of a number of initiatives unveiled by Ocado in recent weeks to attract new customers and build loyalty in the face of increased competition and slowing sales growth.

Yesterday (19 September) it launched a loyalty scheme that offers customers discounts on more than 500 branded products in exchange for an annual subscription fee.

Jason Gissing, Ocado co-founder, says: “Ocado is all about engaging its customers and this sharp new magazine is a fantastic way to do that. The time we save them shopping for food will hopefully now be spent reading interesting, inspiring features and trying different things in their lives.”

The title will be published by August Media and distributed with all Ocado deliveries from this week.
