Google+ launches pages for brands

Google has launched dedicated pages for brands, similar to those on Facebook, on its social network Google+.

Google Plus

The pages allow users to recommend brands by using the +1 button, add companies to their circles so they can be kept updated with news and chat to members of staff via its multi-person video tool Hangouts.

Users can also add brands to the circles straight from Google search results, a service dubbed “Direct Connect”, by pressing a new + button.

UK launch brands for the service include Chelsea Football Club, Burberry, O2 and Save the Children.

The pages currently live have a similar format to Facebook brand pages, with four feature images at the top of the screen next to a main logo picture and a selection of followers displayed on the left-hand side.

Google+ has attracted more than 40 million members worldwide since launching as a field trial in June.

The company recent bolstered the marketing team for Google+ to help the social network achieve scale and attract more users and brand partners.
