Coca-Cola readies Christmas blitz
Coca-Cola’s Santa Claus will return for the eightieth year on Saturday (12 November) when the soft drinks giant launches its annual festive marketing blitz.
Its “holidays are coming” television spot will again feature the Haddon Sundblom created Santa Claus, which first appeared in 1931 and is widely credited with cementing the image of Santa with his white beard and red suit.
It will be followed by an ad dubbed “snow globe” that shows how Coke can play a part in festive family occasions. The latter spot is soundtracked by a song sung by Natasha Bedingfield.
TV ads will be supported by outdoor activity featuring Santa and the Coca-Cola truck.
The Coca-Cola Piccadilly sign in London’s West End will feature goodwill messages tweeted by consumers.
A truck tour will see Santa stopping at 100 towns and cities in the UK “surprising millions of people with festive celebrations”.
