Murdoch resigned from the boards of News Group Newspapers – publisher of The Sun – and the company behind The Times and Sunday Times, Times Newspapers in September.

His resignations came two months after the phone-hacking scandal that forced the closure of The News of the World, which was also published by News Group Newspapers.

Murdoch, who has faced questions from MPs about what he knew about phone hacking at the paper, will remain chairman of News International and deputy chief operating officer of News Corp.
