Costa Coffee has split its business into four divisions and has promoted marketing director Jim Slater to oversee the new unit responsible for the recently launched Costa Express brand and partnerships.

Slater will become managing director of Costa Coffee Enterprises and manage self-service coffee service Costa Express and branded outlets in places such as universities and hospitals.

Units to oversee its high street estate and outlets in Asia and Europe, Middle East and India will also be introduced.

Head of UK marketing Kevin Hydes has been promoted to marketing director of its retail business and will take on many of responsibilities previously handled by Slater. Costa’s chief operating officer Adrian Johnson will become managing director of the unit.

It is hoped the restructure will drive Costa’s expansion plans. Whitbread plans to double the number of Costa outlets to 3,500 stores worldwide in the next five years, while Costa Express will grow to 3,000 sites.
