Morrisons is offering customers an opportunity to win free shopping and will give more than 70,000 shoppers a free shop during the month. Five customers in every Morrisons store will win every day until 31 January.
It is relaunching its price crunch discount campaign as the Great British Price Crunch, focusing on “the nation’s favourite groceries” and cutting prices of thousands of products by up to half.
It is also introducing Saver Stamps for 2012 and giving customers free £1 stamps for every £49 of shopping.
Morrisons hinted at the New Year activity when it launched its Christmas Savings Scheme in October.
It claims its three promotions are designed to “bring some New Year cheer … and excitement during a month which will be tough” after a third of its customers claim to have no money left at the end of the month.
An in-store campaign will be supported by TV, outdoor and press advertising throughout January to push the New Year promotions.
Richard Hodgson, Morrisons group commercial director, says: “We understand that 2012 is set to be a tough year for customers, so our Great British Price Crunch effectively makes the weekly shopping budget stretch further, helping families to afford everyday essentials. We are not penny pinching – these are generous savings that will cut the cost of the weekly shop significantly in a tough month for families.”
Tesco also launched the third wave of its Big Price Drop campaign on 29 December, slashing prices on 350 new products for the New Year and Aldi, Asda and The Co-operative have pledged to cut prices on healthy food as part of the Government’s latest Change4Life initiative.
