Olins, who will join the NMA this month, will take the reins of the transition group set up earlier this year to explore the future role of the trade body in the ever increasingly digital media marketplace.
The group, which was also charged with finding Duffy’s replacement, was being led by Adam Freeman, executive director of Guardian News and Media.
Prior to taking on the chief executive role at marketing intelligence business Warc in 2009, Olins was managing director at Haymarket Brand Media for three years.
He is also an experienced journalist, having held roles as the deputy city editor of The Sunday Times and the editor of trade publication Management Today.
Duffy, the NMA’s founding CEO, stepped down from her role in May to join international market research specialist TNS as its chief executive.
