It is not known if the deal extends beyond the next season of the Super League, which will run from February 3 to October 6.
The RFL, however, says that further information would be unveiled at a news conference next Wednesday (25 January).
The announcement extends Stobart’s involvement in Rugby League, with the UK company currently being the shirt sponsors to the newly promoted Super League team Widnes as well as owning the naming rights to their Halton Stadium.
Stobart Group will take over from Engage Mutual Assurance, who decided not to renew its deal – which was thought to be worth £1.2m a year – last April because the sport no longer fit with its strategy to target the over 50s market.
The RFL claims that the Super League is the second most watched domestic league outside of football. It estimates that 24 million people watch live coverage and highlights across Sky and the BBC each season.
