News Corporation hires former Young & Rubicam global CEO, Hamish McLennan to look at ways to boost its revenue through large-scale brand partnerships.

In his new role as executive vice president for the office of the chairman, McLennan will look to monetise the media company’s core TV and film brands made by the likes of Fox and 20th Century Fox.

The company recently signed a deal with FMCG giant Unilever to sponsor the drama ‘Touch’ (pictured) in more than 100 countries.

News Corp’s integrated sales and marketing division, Fox One, brokered the deal and McLennan will work in tandem with the team to develop similar tie-ups.

He will report to News Corp CEO, Rupert Murdoch and president and COO, Chase Carey.

Murdoch said in a statement: “As we grow our international footprint we see a real opportunity to bolster the value of our brand partnerships, and I am convinced that Hamish’s considerable industry experience, coupled with a unique and wide-ranging strategic vision, make him the right executive to deliver the insights we need to maximize our global media investments.”

Prior to joining News Corp, McLennan was chairman and CEO of creative agency Y&R, where he managed its global offering from 2006. He left last February.
