EE and AGA create ‘connected’ ovens

Everything Everywhere has partnered with AGA Rangemaster to enable people to control their ovens via text or a mobile app even when they are not at home.

Orange SIM cards will be integrated into the AGA iTotal Control oven range, allowing customers to turn their ovens on and off or perform a series of commands via text or an iPhone or Android app.

The oven, available from 1 June, will cost more than £10,000.

AGA is hoping the partnership will help it expand into other European markets, while Everything Everywhere hopes the oven will prove the relevancy of machine to machine (M2M) communication to consumers.

Marc Overton, vice president of wholesale and M2M at Everything Everywhere, says: “Working with an iconic British brand such as AGA to create the iTotal Control oven, has proved just how relevant M2M and connectivity is to everyone, even if they never imagined having a conversation with their ovens before.”

Shipments of consumer M2M devices are predicted to reach more than 37.9 million by 2016, up from 7.1 million last year, according to Berg Insight. E-readers are currently the most popular M2M devices.
