FA to step up marketing for England Euros tickets

The Football Association (FA) is to step up marketing activity to boost ticket sales for England’s games at next month’s Euro 2012 football tournament, a move that follows reports of sluggish sales.

The governing body for English football has made 9,000 official supporter seats available for England’s group games against France, Sweden and Ukraine.

However, only a third of the allocation has been sold according to the Sun with four weeks to go before the national team’s first game against France on June 11.

A spokesman told Marketing Week that the organisation is planning a raft of ticket promotions across different channels including social media and email to sell the remaining tickets, thought to be in the region of 4,000.

He insisted that reports of slow sales were exaggerated in comparison to the “similar” number of England Club members that flew out to the last World Cup tournament in South Africa.

The amount hadn’t taken into account tickets that had been sold through UEFA – the governing body of football in Europe.

He adds: “There could be more thousands of England fans that have bought tickets through UEFA who are not England club members.”
