Kiss posts highest ever London listeners

Bauer’s KISS 100 has stormed into the top three commercial radio station’s in London registering its highest-ever listener numbers, according to the latest Rajar data.

The dance music station registered 1.96 million listeners in the three months to 31 March, up 7.5% on the same period last year and 4.5% on the previous quarter, bumping Global’s Heart into fourth spot.

Despite gains for the station, its Sony award winning breakfast show, hosted by Rickie, Melvin and Charlie, lost listeners in London. Reach fell to 750,000, down from 761,000 last year and 838,000 in the previous quarter.

Elsewhere among London’s commercial stations, Global’s Capital stretched its lead over its commercial rivals. The Global Radio station registered 2.27 million listeners in the period, up 4.1% on last year and 0.7% on the previous quarter.

In their first full quarter as hosts of the station’s flagship breakfast show Dave Berry, who replaced Johnny Vaughan in January, and partner Lisa Snowdon attracted 1.26 million listeners , up on last year’s 1.22 million but down on the 1.31 million that tuned in last quarter.

Bauer’s Magic 105.4 reached 1.96 million listeners in the quarter, down 1.8% on last year and 9.4% on the previous quarter. Performance was hit by a drop in listeners to its Neil Fox and Verity Geere hosted breakfast show, which registered 793,000 listeners in the capital, down from last year’s 839,000 and last quarter’s 848,000.
