Previous incumbent Helen Normoyle revealed she was leaving the broadcaster to take up the first CMO role at DFS a couple of months ago, after two years in the post.

Almond will take over her restructured BBC marketing division which last year saw the creation of genre specific creative marketing teams to work across all channels and programmes.

He spent 17 years at the alcohol giant Diageo, most recently as global brand director for Bailey’s and part of its global marketing leadership team based in Dublin. Before that role he was UK marketing director.

Almond says he “is looking forward to joining the team that recently won the [Marketing Week Engage Award] brand of the year.”
